All-Star Skills Weekend Events
The events for the day will be as follows: · Golden Arm Target – Players will be called to second base where they will be allowed five throws at a target located at home plate. (Division KI/1 will throw from the pitcher’s mound.) Any ball hitting the target on a fly or on one bounce will be scored as follows: o 3 points for contact in the red area or through the “bulls eye”. o 2 points for contact in the white area. o 1 point for contact in the blue area. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will go to the highest scores. · Speedy Base Running – When called, runners will start with their foot on home plate. When the timer says “Go”, runners will run the base path making certain that they touch all bases. If a runner misses a base, 1 second will be deducted from their time for each missed base. Time will end when the runner touches home plate. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will go to the three fastest times. · Long Ball Slugger – Players will bat from home plate (helmets required) and will hit the ball. Markers will be placed on the field and coaches (many needed) will be strategically located throughout the entire field. Players will be allowed 5 contacts with the ball. Scores will be determined by where the ball lands on a fly. Only fair balls will be scored although a foul ball will count as one of the five contacts. Divisions K/1 will bat from a tee. Markers will be shortened for Baseball Divisions K/1, and 2/3 and for Softball Divisions K/1 and 2/3/4. Field judges will determine where the ball lands and call out the scores. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will be awarded to those having the highest scores. · Lightning Fast-Pitch - Players will be allowed 5 throws from the pitcher’s mound. They will pitch towards a wooden strike-zone target mounted on the backstop. The speed of the pitches will be recorded by a radar gun. Only balls landing on or within the strike-zone target will have their speeds counted toward their score. The best speed of the 5 throws will be used to determine placement. In the event of a tie, the 2nd fastest speed will be used to break the tie. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will be awarded to the highest speeds. |
